Jarna Whiting, Hair & Makeup Artist, Wellington

“It was the first time I had got my photo taken. It was such an empowering experience.

I felt uncomfortable, but Tabitha encouraged me, she showed me empathy. And it’s being around women like that creates community and care rather than competition, or criticism.

I actually got so emotional when I saw my photos ‘cos I I feel really uncomfortable being photographed.

I realised that I spend a lot of time making other people feel beautiful and I’m beautiful regardless of what I do for a living - and it’s all based on the internal environment I create in my mind and who I am as a person.

If you have an opportunity to get a headshot done by Tabitha... Get on it. Stop doubting yourself and book in those headshots!!!

I put off doing my headshots, and ohhh my gosh what an experience. What an experience Tabitha creates. Get on it. Do it! Do it, do it, do it.”

How to have headshot photography you love

I cannot even tell you the number of times I’ve had people tell me how much they cringe over their LinkedIn profile image.

It’s my mission to capture the best photo of you you’ve ever seen of yourself - and that includes your corporate headshots.

I cannot overstate the dramatic effect having an expert professional photoshoot has on your confidence and professional image.

Here are just a few of the elements that go into creating a next-level headshot experience.

Style. One of the most important considerations in getting good headshots - like actually, truly loving your professional business portraits - is to ensure you really like the headshot photographer’s style.

Look at their work - can you see a representation of people who look like you?

A mistake is choosing a photographer who only shows photos of young models with flawless skin who’s never had a bad hair day in her life… In reality, that’s not me - and if you’re reading this, it’s probably not you, either.

Best light. I know I sure as heck want a headshot photographer who knows how to highlight my best features and show me in my best light.

Contrary to popular opinion, it’s not about the camera - or Photoshop - that gets great results.

Creating great light is a big part of taking headshots - and that all-important LinkedIn profile - that go from ugh to WOW!

Natural light is often thought of as being the best - and it can be wonderful! However, the weather doesn't always play ball.

For example, direct sunlight creates hard shadows which accentuate any lines or texture on the skin - and I have never had someone say “please make me look older, Tabitha”.

Ensuring a soft light source helps your skin look beautiful, your eyes shine, and helps get the great results you deserve from your photographs.

See your personality. One of the biggest impressions people get from looking at my corporate headshots is - they don’t look like stale old-fashioned corporate headshots! No more stiff, awkward posing!

It's not about a million different locations, either:

It's about the connection the viewer has with you - the impression people get is they see the essence of the person in the photograph; your audience can see your authentic personality.

The right photographer for you. Taking a good headshot to a great headshot!

To capture your personality, to capture you in your best light, and to convey the impression you would feel proud to put out into the world, and make your professional LinkedIn profile photo stand out...

You need a headshot photographer who puts their focus into helping their subject through the entire photo experience, including posing and expression in front of the camera.

The photographer (me!) will also create an environment in which you feel like you’re with an uplifting friend - which is essential for getting photos you'll love!

You deserve more than a good headshot, or a stuffy old same-same corporate headshots.

You are great at your business - you need a photographer who is great at theirs, and can take a picture of you in your best light.

You deserve the best to highlight how awesome you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most people want to know if they will have a professional makeup artist doing their makeup.

The answer is: Absolutely!

Headshot photography with Tabitha Arthur Photography means you won’t need to worry about any technical aspect:

I’ve perfected the art of capturing your personality, so we get professional results and final images you will love.

No more old-fashioned stuffy corporate headshots you cringe over. The next-level headshot photo experience with me makes all the difference.

So - how long will you have to wait, how much Photoshop do I use (very little - I get it right in camera - I can take care of special requests, too), what if you don’t know the poses that look good…

  • Multiple studies have found we have mere seconds to make a good – or bad – first impression. One study even found it took 1/10 of a second! Those must’ve been some judgy-judgy people in that survey…

Regardless, we’ve all heard the saying “first impressions count”, and while you might be the nicest, most reliable, perfect human that has ever walked this beautiful earth, if your corporate headshots aren’t capturing this, then that potential dream employer may pass you on by quick-smart.

Yep, we all have days where we shove our hair into a messy bun (and I’m not talking about a stylish TikTok 30 minute styled version - I mean the get-this-hair-off-my-face-stat version). We are all mooching around in our comfy not-for-public-view clothes when working from home.

Your headshot photos will help you look like that aspirational version of yourself you aspire to be, and designed to draw your ideal employer or recruiter to you - this is YOU on a good day, where you’ve had enough sleep, drunk all the water, and your Inbox is zero.

Be a cool nerd – do your homework. Look through lots of other headshot imagery to get an idea of what outfits look best to your eye, and the look/s you want to portray.

Consider your target audience – who are you wanting to work with, and what do you want them to think?

We can also have a chat about this on our strategy phone call, and I provide a PDF guide to help as well.

I also share details for one of my absolute fav Personal Stylists if you desire extra help with what to wear.

  • First up, know that what you are feeling is very human. 99.99% of my clients feel some sort of nerves thinking about having their photo taken: from nervous-excited through to barely even making it to my studio and shaking and sweating so much!

Now you might be looking at the photos of my clients and thinking they look super relaxed / confident / authentically themselves, there’s no way they were as nervous as you..! Please know that most - almost ALL of them - felt that same way.

My clients will tell you that they focussed on just getting themselves to my studio on the day of their photoshoot - and that I guided them through everything from there.

You may not believe it right now, I know with absolute certainty that you will be able to do it, too.

At some point during their photoshoot, many of my nervous clients find themselves exclaiming “This is so much fun! Everyone should do this!”. I always reply - “Please let them know that, because I could bang on about this all day, but it’s not until they experience it for themselves that they believe it!”

  • I will photograph you on a white background and a dark background, like you see in the photos above.

You will be guided through different poses and expressions so you have a fantastic variety to select from in a short space of time.

Even if you feel nervous about being photographed, I have tips and tricks to help you get the best headshots you’ve ever had!

“I’ve had several fantastic experiences with Tabitha, and her work is second to none.

She is incredibly friendly and supportive through what can be an unsettling process for anyone.

Her skills in behind the camera, combined with her ability to put people at ease and coach them towards great shots result in excellent pictures.

[In Tabitha you have a] headshot provider that is without parallel in my experience of 20+ years of getting headshots.”
